Dr. Forsythe was trained in Family Practice at the University of Southern California and later completed a Sports Medicine fellowship at Sweden’s Karolinska [Nobel] Institute. For his contributions to sports medicine, Dr. Forsythe was advanced to the position of Fellow in the American College of Sports Medicine in 1991.
In 1984, Dr. Forsythe was appointed by George Allen to President Ronald Reagan’s National Council on Physical Fitness & Sports. In 1988, ABC Television appointed Dr. Forsythe to its Sports Medicine Editor’s position. During the 1988 Calgary Olympic Games, Dr. Forsythe’s groundbreaking work revealed the organized use of genetically manufactured blood doping products [EPO] in elite sport competition.
Dr. Forsythe is the author of Athletics for Life [Simon & Schuster], The Green Light Program [Burroughs Publications] and a popular sports medicine video Stop Working Out with Olympic Champion Dorothy Hamill.
In clinical medicine, Dr. Forsythe was acclaimed for his unique work with diabetic athletes, and trained the first insulin dependent diabetic patient [Bill Carlson] to complete the Hawaiian Ironman triathlon competition. Other elite athlete clients have included NBA basketball stars Kiki Vandeweghe, Jamal Wilkes, Bob McAdoo; celebrity clients Michael Jackson, Adam Ant, Conrad Bain, and corporate clients including the Los Angeles FBI, Santa Monica Police Department and Knapp Communications.
